Approval of the INTERREG SUDOE Project ALERT-PFAS – Detection and prevention of water pollution by PFAS

On 5 December, the Monitoring Committee of the INTERREG VI-B Sudoe Programme approved the ALERT-PFAS Project – Detection and prevention of water pollution by PFAS.

Led by Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, brings together experts from several European countries who will work to find ways to detect PFAS (perfluoroalkylated and polyfluoroalkylated substances) that are highly persistent, mobile and harmful to the environment. The emission of F-gases into the atmosphere and their degradation lead to the pollution of water and soil through acid rain and in turn the degradation of PFAS in soil and water leads to fluorinated gases that are emitted into the atmosphere. This is a cycle of environmental pollution that we must fight.

It fits in with the specific objective of promoting adaptation to climate change, disaster risk prevention and resilience, taking into account preserved approaches in ecosystems and as a priority preserve natural capital and strengthen adaptation to climate change , disaster risk prevention and resilience, taking into account preserved approaches in ecosystems and as a priority preserve natural capital and strengthen adaptation to climate change in southwestern Europe.
